Jack's origins can be traced to sport. After the long Sunday run the athletes were fed up with what was on offer on the high street. Poor quality, lacking real nourishment, simply disappointing. Each week the discussion would centre around burritos the runners had had in Colorado and elsewhere Stateside. Finally, they could take no more: time to do something about it. A plan was hatched...

Two years of research has gone into the Jack's concept. This began with getting the food right. Countless dishes were tried out and "research trips" undertaken to all sorts of restaurants until we were happy with the product. Then it was tested extensively and people loved it.
Once we were happy with the quality of the food, the brand was born. We needed a name that was different, that would stand out. Someone with whom the customer could identify. Illegal Jack and his South West Grill was the result. Next came the concept: how to offer a superior dining experience to the competition. Jack's oak furniture and iconic walls combined with music we think you'll love was the result. Finally, authenticity. Why not allow customers to see their food being prepared in the grill? The Hatch to Jack's kitchen was the result. Manned by enthusiastic staff, who are passionate about what we do, and the result is Illegal Jack's South West Grill. We hope you like it.
A Note About South West Cuisine
South West food is a fusion of Mexican, Native American, Spanish settler & Cowboy inspired variants. At Illegal Jack's we add a Scottish influence to the mix (try our haggis Burritos, Tacos and Quesadillas). All this combines to make for some of the spiciest and most colourful cuisine America (and Scotland!) has to offer.
South West cuisine shares characteristics of Mexican and Tex Mex food, however it has its own distinct take. South West food uses selected, bigger cuts of meat than Mexican traditionally does. An example? - Illegal Jack's South West Grill uses only cuts of beef steak for all Beef Burritos, Tacos and Quesadillas.
Like Mexican food South West cuisine is identified by its use of chillies (we love them) and spices.
You'll find Chicken wings on the menu also, they're not South West... We just like them!
